Granted, I don’t know how real this is, but it still scares me, for two major reasons:
The first is the obvious “Holy schnitzel! Robots can make decisions and want things and they’re capable of going against our wishes and we’re okay with that? It’s the doggam end of the world!”
The second is a general bafflement over the nature of the programming: what does it say about society that programming a machine to fall in love means programming it to become possessive? Here’s one more for enforced monogamy and heteronormativity.
